TIA!! | | | Back to top | 0 | wife2 | Mon, Oct 28 2013, 12:58 am You can use other sauces depending on what you are making for example: meatballs- cranberry sauce shepherds pie/meat loaf - bbq sauce I make burgers with bbq sauce mixed into the meat. There are other meat sauces like worcestershire that people like to use with ground beef. It also depends how you serve it - tacos, meatballs, burgers, shepherds pie, etc. are you looking for sauces that go with ground beef or ideas of how to serve ground beef in different ways? | | | Back to top | 0 | ra_mom | Mon, Oct 28 2013, 1:01 am meatballs in mushroom sauce or carrot sauce meatball soup kefta beef kebabs meatball pita tacos meat bourekas moroccan cigars vegetable meatloaf | | | Back to top | 0 | RachelEve14 | Mon, Oct 28 2013, 1:51 am I don't put tomato sauce in my shepard's pie. Sautee ground beef with sliced onions and mushrooms. When cooked, add a few tablespoons of flour and stir until all the lumps are gone. Add a container of Tofutti "Better than Sour Cream", some garlic powder, salt and pepper. If it's too thick, add some beef stock. A dash of paprika is nice if you have it. Serve over wide egg noodles. This is one of DH's favorite meals. You can make it way in advance and freeze it, and just cook up the noodles at the last minute. It tastes even better the next day, or defrosted. This is fabulous comfort food, warm and filling. It works really well for Succot dinners. | | | Back to top | 2 | SS6099 | Mon, Oct 28 2013, 6:27 am Sweet and sour meatballs- our all time favorite! Pity there's no pareve sour cream available here. | That is really sad! Faux dairy products make this BT very happy. I get to reproduce all of my childhood favorites. Have you tried looking in natural food stores, or ordering it online? I wonder if there's a recipe somewhere out there where you can make mock sour cream with tofu? (You can get tofu, right?) I guess I'm really spoiled, living in America. | | | Back to top | 0 | busydev | Mon, Oct 28 2013, 3:24 pm ra_mom wrote: | meatballs in mushroom sauce kefta beef kebabs meatball pita tacos moroccan cigars | if you could give these recipes (or links to them) that would be amazing!! and wife2 do you have a recipe for cranberry sauce meatballs? and we are looking for tomato-less recipes due to aversions not allergies. thanks again everyone!! | | | Back to top | 0 | sarahd | Mon, Oct 28 2013, 3:58 pm FranticFrummie wrote: | sarahd wrote: | FF, your recipe sounds divine! I'd give it a try with firm tofu, adding some almond milk for added moisture. How bad could it be? | | | Back to top | 0 | sarahd | Mon, Oct 28 2013, 4:32 pm You think soy milk would also work? Any inkling whether or not pareve plain (aka not sweetened or flavored) greek yogurt would do well? I'm guessing yes, because greek yogurt is a common "healthy" substitute for sour cream, but I'm worried it wouldn't have the right tang for stroganoff! Maybe I'll just try it out and report back | | | Back to top | 0 | greenfire | Mon, Oct 28 2013, 6:09 pm you can actually make a meat sauce using a package of brown gravy mix - in lieu of the tomatoe sauce ... still good over pasta - especially if you're allergic to tomatoes | | | Back to top | 0 | ra_mom | Mon, Oct 28 2013, 7:15 pm busydev wrote: | ra_mom wrote: | meatballs in mushroom sauce kefta beef kebabs meatball pita tacos moroccan cigars | if you could give these recipes (or links to them) that would be amazing!! and wife2 do you have a recipe for cranberry sauce meatballs? and we are looking for tomato-less recipes due to aversions not allergies. thanks again everyone!! | meatballs in mushroom sauce http://imamother.com/forum/vie.....85433 kefta beef kebabs here is one sample recipe. if using this one, use just a bit less than half the salt amount. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/kofta-kebabs/ play around with the seasonings: grated onion, fresh coriander, dried or fresh mint and parsley, cumin, cinnamon, cayenne, and salt. meatball pita http://imamother.com/forum/vie.....+pita see my changes tacos http://imamother.com/forum/vie.....=taco use as much or as little cayenne pepper as you like and add more salt to meat, to taste, once almost done moroccan cigars http://imamother.com/forum/vie.....50441 | | | Back to top | 0 | Hashem_Yaazor | Mon, Oct 28 2013, 10:00 pm busydev, my blog has a cranberry sauce recipe I made up without tomato sauce (a lot I have seen have both) You should know my husband only eats ground beef with tomato sauce!
